Artcite Inc. is excited to engage Katie Kotler through Option+Shift, a series of online talks with artists and curators whose practices represent some of the diverse range of digital media perspectives being explored today. Working in animation, video, GIFs and other unexpected or unconventional use of media, these speakers help us think expansively and imagine different possibilities within our increasingly digital, COVID reality.
Katie Kotler is a Toronto-based artist. Her practice explores how the physicality of animation can be translated into installation art, print and music. She is also interested in how lineages of art histories meld into one another, often in previously unnoticed ways. Kotler creates immersive and self-reflexive atmospheres that use as lo-fi materials as possible. Her work has been featured on the CBC, Hyperallergic, Rhizome and Canadian Art. Recent collaborations include: Truluv Media, Venus Fest, Equitable Bank, Roundtable Residency, Drake Hotel, Art Gallery of Ontario, Long Winter Festival and Luminato Festival.
