What Works? #2: What is an Executive Director? w/ Stephanie Barnhard and Teajai Travis

  • Artcite Inc 109 University Avenue West Windsor, ON, N9A 5P4 Canada (map)

An introduction to the role of Executive Director in the Arts; a collaborative workshop with two facilitators offering comparative insight into arts administration.

Stephanie Barnhard is a community arts administrator and arts promoter. She is a director on the board of the Arts Council of Windsor & Region (ACWR), and since 2019, has served as Board President of Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA). During her time at WEA, she has overseen the distribution of $87,000 in art grants to 33 artists and creatives in Windsor-Essex. For her efforts, she was recognized as a “Windsor Community Champion” by the Mayor of Windsor in 2022. She holds a B.A. in Film Studies from the University of Western Ontario, and a Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate from the University of Saskatchewan.

Teajai Travis is a community artist working out of Windsor Ontario. He serves on the Board of Directors for Literary Arts Windsor, the Windsor Workers' Action Centre, and Engage Windsor. He mentors for Family Fuse, sits on the organizing committee for Stone and Sky Music & Art Series, and serves on the Community Steering Committee for Bridging North America, where he is advocating on behalf of Sandwich Town during the construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge. Teajai is an arts educator with Arts Can Teach, the founder of The Bloomfield House, Open Space Art Studio, Free Verse Poetry Share, and the current Executive Director of Artcite Inc. Most recently, Teajai founded Sacred Story Studio, where he hosts and produces a monthly storytelling series called A Blaze of Story. When Teajai isn't running around town barely managing any of the above projects, he’s spending quiet time at home with his partner Beanz, their dog Manco, and of course the birds Dexter and Cashew.

This event is part of our monthly What Works? series, an ongoing practical skills workshop program for youth working toward a career in arts administration. What Works? is open to all Windsor-Essex area youth, ages 15–24, and is part of the Community Leadership for Aspiring Arts Professionals (CLAAP) program. Registration required. Spaces are limited. Free!
