Programming Changes
Overview
In the last five years, Artcite has shown 0 Black artists. We were aware of inequities in our programming, but admittedly not to this extent.
Artcite is making major changes to our short-term and long-term programming.
First, we are cancelling 50% of our planned public programming over the next two years to make space for new, Black-led projects and those with an intersectional lens.
Second, we are making changes to the way we do programming. Right now, our programming committees are formed from a call to our members. This itself is an actively racist system in place at Artcite as we are calling on our predominantly white membership to make decisions we hope are reflective. We will be moving forward with changes that engage more diverse perspectives and compensate participants for their time and experience.
Moving forward, calls for submissions will be determined by the newly formed programming committees and will be dedicated to specific ideas, concepts, or issues each season, as a way to ensure we are programming with intent and driving conversation forward.
